Who’ll make a More EMS Supportive President?

by admin on July 18, 2008

Who do you think will make a better president when it comes to supporting the EMS field? Whether you’re an EMT, paramedic, firefighter, or know someone in the field let your peers know who you’re voting for and while you’re at it leave a comment and tell us why. Take the Emergency Services Blog poll and tell EMP who you plan on voting for.

When it comes to boots on the ground running calls, I don’t see either candidate as particularly EMS friendly. Not that their anti-EMS, just that they won’t really effect us that much. Running as a paid on call memeber and going to trainings and pub-ed events, I feel the time away from our families and the work environment dictates we make a better wage. That type of change isn’t coming from the federal government as much as it will come from the local government. I’d rather all the EMS and Fire volunteers watch closely who they put in to their local government to insure budgets are increased and services enhanced rather than the opposite.

Should the question be pressed, I think McCain would appreciate what we do far more than Obama. McCain is an ex-military pilot. Pilots put their lives into the hands of high school graduate mechanics and medics all the time. They know that if the guy with the wrench doesn’t like you, you’re done. His experiences as a POW would also make him appreciate our “field” conditions. Working in a hospital or clinic is much different than in a patient’s house, crowded bar, or side of the highway. We put ourselves to the hazard, without question, to save others. McCain’s life experiences would make him appreciate that far more than Obama’s.

I vote McCain.
